24 Values - Sense Of Colour

The idea of this second term project was to show how colour can appear different depending on its surroundings.
the x- and y-coordinates of the lines as well as the gap between lines of the same colour are generated with the data of the climate charts from Berlin and Kathmandu. The colours orange and pink encode the temperature the colours green and blue the precipitation. In this way twelve different images were created. Because of the dark grey background the changing density and the changing position of the lines, the four colours look always a bit different although they never change. The little experiment shows that our brain mixes the background with the colours and so creates new colours. If there is a high density of lines the grey will not be mixed together with the colour. However with decreasing density of lines the colours appear darker. To start this small application click on the picture below.
